Indonesia has visa options that may suit remote workers, but eligibility, income evidence, sponsorship, tax treatment, permitted activities and stay conditions need checking against the current immigration rules. Treat social media summaries as leads, not legal advice.

The E33G route

Indonesia introduced an E33G remote worker route for eligible applicants who work for a company outside Indonesia and meet the stated income and documentation conditions. Check the official immigration requirements and application process before relying on it. A visa category existing on paper does not mean every applicant, job arrangement or income source fits it.

Tourist permission is not a work permit

A tourist or visit permission may let you stay and enjoy Bali, but that is not the same as permission to work for an Indonesian employer or provide local services. Do not take local employment, invoice Indonesian clients or run a local operation without advice on the correct structure.

Tax is a separate question

Immigration permission and tax residence are different systems. The length of your stay, where your work is performed, where your clients are based and whether you create a local business presence can all change the analysis. Speak to a qualified adviser before treating a visa as a tax answer.

What to carry and check

Keep your passport, approval documents, insurance evidence, accommodation details and onward or return travel information organised. Rules and enforcement can change. Use official Indonesian immigration sources and confirm with the relevant consulate or a licensed adviser before booking a non-refundable move.

The honest answer

Bali can work brilliantly for remote workers who do the paperwork properly. The expensive mistake is arriving with a vague plan, assuming a tourist stay covers everything and discovering the legal questions after signing a villa lease. Build the visa decision into the move, not into the airport queue.
