A realistic solo budget in Bali is roughly USD 1,200 to 2,500 a month, depending heavily on your area and housing. Canggu and Seminyak make the number climb quickly. Ubud, Sanur and Denpasar offer better value, although each changes the daily rhythm in a different way.

A practical monthly budget

StyleMonthly totalWhat it looks like
CarefulUSD 900-1,300Simple room or local studio, warungs, scooter, limited nightlife
ComfortableUSD 1,500-2,500Private one-bed, mix of local and Western food, coworking, social life
Villa lifestyleUSD 2,500-4,000+Pool, premium area, frequent restaurants, activities and imported goods

Rent is the decision

Canggu and Pererenan have the strongest nomad infrastructure and some of the least forgiving rental maths. Ubud can offer more space and a slower pace. Sanur is easier for a settled, walkable routine. Denpasar is the value option if you want to live in a real Indonesian city rather than recreate a coworking brochure.

Food, transport and work

Local warung meals keep food reasonable, while imported groceries, brunches and delivery can quietly double the number. A scooter is common, but traffic and road risk are not small details. Coworking and cafe work add a proper line to the budget, and reliable home internet should be checked before you pay a deposit.

The hidden Bali budget

Add health insurance, visa fees, deposits, airport transfers, scooter maintenance, power or water arrangements and occasional trips away from the busiest areas. A one-month villa price is not the same as a negotiated long lease. Ask what is included before converting a pretty listing into a monthly plan.

How to keep Bali affordable

Start with a short stay, inspect the area at rush hour, and ask for a longer-term rate only after seeing the property. Choose your social habits before choosing your postcode. If every meal, gym session and coffee requires a ten-minute ride, your transport bill and patience will both suffer.
