A new name has entered Phuket’s development map: ICONPHUKET. Siam Piwat’s 5 October announcement describes a THB 10 billion retail, attraction and entertainment destination planned for Thalang. It is a separate project from Bangkok’s ICONSIAM, though it comes from the same group. The company is targeting an opening in 2029.

The proposed site is within Synthesis Ark Phuket, a larger development by CV Group of Companies on Thepkrasattri Road in Si Sunthon, Thalang. Synthesis Ark’s project news places ICONPHUKET in that wider plan. The two figures often reported together refer to different scopes: THB 10 billion for ICONPHUKET and THB 50 billion for Synthesis Ark as a whole.

What has been announced?

Siam Piwat calls the destination a hybrid of retail, attractions and entertainment. It says the plan includes 12 attractions, with more than 40% of the project dedicated to green and open space. Those are design intentions in the company announcement; the final tenant mix, access arrangements and public spaces have yet to be detailed. The company also says the destination will draw on the identities of Southern Thailand’s 14 provinces, including local products and businesses.

For residents, the practical question is how a large visitor destination will work in an area already shared by homes, schools and through traffic. Thepkrasattri Road is a main north–south route through Phuket. The announcement points to smart mobility and resource management, but it does not set out a transport plan detailed enough to assess trip times, traffic effects or public access. Those details matter more than a headline visitor projection.

Where ICONPHUKET fits in Synthesis Ark

Synthesis Ark is planned as a mixed-use district rather than a single shopping centre. The published masterplan describes residential, hotel, office, education, health and wellness uses alongside public and commercial space. ICONPHUKET is its retail and entertainment centrepiece, according to Siam Piwat. CBRE’s hotel advisory announcement and its NEXUS precinct appointment concern other parts of the wider scheme.

That distinction is useful when reading progress reports. A September 2026 construction update on Synthesis Ark’s news page refers to NEXUS. It does not establish that construction of ICONPHUKET itself has begun. Likewise, Siam Piwat’s stated 2029 opening target for ICONPHUKET is different from its target to complete the first phase of the wider Synthesis Ark development in 2032. Neither should be read as a confirmed completion date for every element of the masterplan.

What it could mean for northern Phuket

The project would add another major destination away from the island’s established west-coast resort areas and Phuket Town. It could change how visitors and residents use Thalang, but the scale of any effect on jobs, local businesses, roads or nearby housing cannot be measured from the announcement alone. Siam Piwat’s economic and visitor estimates are projections by the developer, not outcomes.

Anyone considering a move or property purchase nearby should assess the location on its current merits and keep the proposed development on a separate timeline. Our Phuket area guide compares places to live, while the Phuket buying guide covers the checks that matter before a purchase. More specific design, construction and transport information will make ICONPHUKET’s local impact easier to judge.
