Modern Expat Magazine is open to strong pitches that fit the publication. We are most interested in practical guides, reported explainers, founder and expat stories, community coverage, sharp opinion, and pieces that help readers live better in Phuket or understand the wider Thailand context around it.

What Fits Best

Ideas usually work when they are specific, current and grounded in real experience or reporting. Good examples include neighbourhood explainers, visa and move planning angles, healthcare or school guides, founder profiles, community stories, and first-person pieces that say something more useful than I moved abroad and it changed my life.

What Usually Does Not Fit

Generic destination lists, thin travel roundups, obvious SEO rehashes, copy written for keyword volume alone, and anything built on invented facts, unsupported statistics or AI-made quotes are not a fit.

How To Pitch

Use the contact page and label the subject clearly. Keep it short. Tell us the angle, why it matters now, what reporting or first-hand access you have, and whether the piece is news, a guide, an interview idea or a first-person story.

Voice

We use natural British English and a direct editorial voice. Clear, useful, human, and not dressed up to sound more important than it is.

Commissioning

Not every pitch will be commissioned or answered in detail. If an idea fits the site and the current editorial direction, we will take it forward from there.
